I am honored to serve as your City Council member. I was born and raised here in Eureka. I've attended local schools and been an active member of our community. I love Eureka and want to ensure that we are focused on improving our quality of life and developing living wage jobs that will keep our children from leaving the area. Below is a list of priorities for the city of Eureka.
Smart Growth- I will fight for appropriate planning which incorporates our citizens' quality of life as a top priority. Smart planning will ensure we have available land for light industry and waterfront dependent business. It will also lessen traffic, environmental, and visual impacts for Eureka citizens. We have made great strides in the area of historic preservation, and creating a livable, walk-able community. We must continue our work towards restoring Old Town and the downtown area as the retail core of our city and enhancing our image as a Victorian Seaport.
Public Safety- Police and Fire services are essential to the health of our community. I will continue to ensure both departments receive the necessary resources to provide our citizens with continued excellent service.
Economic Development- A recent study showed one-fourth of our children grow up in poverty and another showed nearly fifty percent of children in Eureka qualify for the free lunch program at school. I will fight for the development of good paying, living-wage jobs that raise our area's median wage. I support the efforts to rebuild the railroad as well as the efforts to improve the Buckhorn Summit route along 299. Both projects will improve transportation of goods to and from our harbor. I will also continue to work with others to market our free trade zone and enterprise zone which provide federal economic incentives to new and expanding businesses in our region.
Your opinion matters to me. Please feel free to contact me with your thoughts on any city issues.
