The E.F.D. In Action:

Fire On Second Street

Structure Fire-10/14/97

This fire destroyed a vacant Victorian era house and is still under investigation.

Firefighters attempted an interior control of the fire for 20 minutes; but could not reach the seat of the fire to stop fire progression.

Despite their well earned reputations for aggressive attack, Firefighters from the Eureka Fire Department and Humboldt Fire District #1 were pulled back; due to the age and construction of the building-and the fact that it had been earmarked for demolition-further attempts at interior control were deemed to place Firefighters at unwarranted risk.

4th of July, 1996

Just as Eureka's Municipal Fireworks Pageant was ending, fireworks began for the E.F.D.

This structure fire-which was not fireworks related-rapidly enveloped an older wooden structure.

Due to its proximity to the public Fireworks display, this unwanted addition to the evening's events drew a large crowd.
