By the year 2000, 90% of all jobs will require the ability to read at a high school level.  Yet 25% of Humboldt County adults are illiterate.  This hurts us all.  But the cure is certain, free, confidential, and fun.

The Humboldt Literacy Project has been teaching people to read since 1981. Located at 215 Fourth Street, in the heart of Eureka, our new Humboldt Literacy Center is open to anyone who wants to read a book from our extensive library, volunteer as a tutor, find tutoring, use our computers, or share conversation with friends and neighbors.

Monday through Thursday 9a.m. - 4p.m.

Friday 9a.m. - 12:30p.m.
